On August 6, 2020, Nike Inc. announced its partnership with Time to Vote in celebration of the historic 55th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. In 1965, the Voting Rights Act, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, outlawed discrimination at the voting polls. Even though the 15th Amendment of the Constitution prohibits the federal government from denying U.S citizens the right to vote, the Voting Rights Act was a landmark legislative response during the Civil Rights Era.
This year, Kicks Lounge will be participating alongside Nike Inc. and affiliates for its ‘You Can’t Stop Our Voice’ Campaign. Throughout the month of October, Kicks Lounge will be encouraging all eligible U.S citizens to step away from the sidelines and get involved by registering to vote and to cast their ballots for the 2020 Presidential Election.
